Kyiv, Ukraine. August 23, 2024. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi gathered in Kyiv to pay tribute to the children who have lost their lives due to the ongoing conflict caused by Russia’s invasion.
At the site of the multimedia memorial “Children,” both leaders placed toys and observed a moment of silence to honor the memory of the young victims. The Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Andriy Kostin, briefed them on the exhibition’s history and the tragic impact of Russian attacks on areas where children were present, including a devastating missile strike on Ukraine’s largest children’s hospital, Okhmatdyt.
Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, 570 Ukrainian children have been reported killed. This number is expected to rise, as information from territories temporarily occupied by Russian forces remains incomplete, and ongoing attacks continue to claim more lives.
The “Children” multimedia project was launched in June 2022 to mark the Day of Remembrance for Children Killed by Russia’s Armed Aggression Against Ukraine. The memorial displays the names and photographs of young Ukrainians who have perished in the conflict, serving as a poignant reminder of the war’s devastating impact on innocent lives.
