Orleans, France. 17 September 2019. It was the second leg of the MBDA Media Tour and we reached Paris from Manchester yesterday night. And this morning we embarked on our journey via the beautiful countryside of France to the little village of Selles-Saint-Denis, in the city of Joan of Arc Orleans. Our destination was the MBDA facility nestled in the forest area.
The site at of Selles-Saint-Denis is one of three Regional Centres outside of Paris for MBDA in France (the others being in Bourges). Work there covers research and production and it is now the only site for pyrotechnic integration of MBDA missiles in France.
Originally acquired by French businessman Sylvain Floirat as a hunting reserve in the 1960s, in 1979 the then CEO of Matra – Jean-Luc Lagardère – decided to use the site for integration of live missiles.
Today almost 300 people work at the maximum security site, mainly on production of missiles ranging from MMP to Stormshadow/Scalp, as well as work to repair refurbish and inspect customers’ existing missiles.
