Nagpur witnessed a heartfelt celebration of the Ninth Armed Forces Veterans’ Day at Headquarters Maintenance Command, Vayusena Nagar, on 14 January 2025. The celebration was graced by the Hon’ble Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, who presided the event as the Chief Guest. Air Marshal Vijay Kumar Garg, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Maintenance Command welcomed the chief guest and veterans.
This solemn occasion paid a befitting tribute to the unparalleled service and sacrifices of our veterans. The event not only served as a reminder of the nation’s enduring gratitude but also celebrated the indomitable spirit and legacy of our veterans who dedicated their lives for safeguarding India’s sovereignty and integrity.
The Armed Forces Veterans’ Day holds a special place in the annals of Indian history. On this very day in 1953, Field Marshal K. M. Cariappa, the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army, formally retired from service. In recognition of his monumental contributions, this day is celebrated annually. This year marked its 9th edition. The event has been organised at multiple locations in the country.
The event began with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Shaurya Smarak, a solemn moment where the Hon’ble Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari, senior veterans and AOC-in-C, Maintenance Command paid homage to the brave hearts who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation. This was followed by a series of engaging and meaningful events, wherein, the Veer Matas, Veer Naris and veterans were felicitated for their bravery and sacrifice. Speakers from the Directorate of Air Veterans, Zilla Sainik Board Nagpur and nationalized banks delivered lectures aimed at addressing the welfare and financial well-being of veterans. The event was attended by nearly 1000 veterans and family members.
In his keynote speech, Shri Nitin Gadkari lauded the veterans for their unwavering dedication and selfless sacrifices. He reiterated the nation’s commitment to their welfare and emphasized the importance of honouring their legacy as an inspiration for future generations. Hon’ble Minister, also emphasized on the need for having self-reliant and strong Armed Forces. Subsequently, he interacted with veterans present at the venue.
The Ninth Armed Forces Veterans’ Day Celebrations concluded on a high note, leaving attendees with a deep sense of pride, nostal and gratitude.
