SINGAPORE . February 17, 2016. Rockwell Collins announced that Sichuan Airlines Co., Ltd. has taken delivery of an Airbus A320 equipped with the PAVES™ seat-centric in-flight entertainment (IFE) system. The easy-to-use, easy-to-maintain, and reliable IFE system from Rockwell Collins is featured in the aircraft’s first-class section.
With PAVES seat-centric IFE, airlines can develop their own look and experience for passengers and can efficiently manage non-DRM content via Rockwell Collins’ web portal management tool. The system also features an open-software architecture to support customized and third-party applications with minimal effort.
“Airlines want flexibility and control when it comes to their cabin and our PAVES system makes that possible,” said Greg Irmen, vice president and general manager, Information Systems for Rockwell Collins. “We worked closely with Sichuan Airlines to develop and design a complete solution that meets their needs to make passengers’ journeys as enjoyable as possible.”
The PAVES seat-centric design maximizes reliability by eliminating any single point of failure. Each in-seat system is independent, so seat monitors store viewing content. PAVES is also equipped with a quick-release mechanism to replace in-seat displays in less than 60 seconds to rapidly repair broken audio pins.
Sichuan Airlines’ A320 will also feature PAVES Broadcast IFE in its economy section. PAVES Broadcast leverages the same on-board media server as PAVES seat-centric IFE, reducing weight while providing the airline with unprecedented flexibility to control the loading and unloading of its own digital content.
“We see great value in Rockwell Collins’ IFE solution and the strong customer support network it brings,” said Mr. Li Haiying, president, Sichuan Airlines. “More importantly, we know our passengers will be pleased with a solution that they can rely on during their journeys.”
Additional A320 and A321 aircraft will be delivered to Sichuan Airlines equipped with PAVES seat-centric and Broadcast IFE in the coming weeks.
