Moscow. 17 August 2022. Russian Ministry of Defence is ready to develop relations with the military department of Mali, to help strengthen the defence capabilities of the republic’s armed forces and to make the fight against illegal armed groups in the country more effective. Colonel General Alexander Fomin, Russian Deputy Defence Minister, said at talks with Colonel Sadio Kamara, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Mali. The meeting took place on the sidelines of X Moscow Conference on International Security.
“We are ready to assist in the development of defence relations between our countries in every possible way and would like to emphasise once again your personal contribution. Of course, we are confident that this joint work of ours will help to strengthen the defence capabilities of your country’s armed forces and thus contribute to increasing the effectiveness of the fight against illegal armed groups,” said Colonel General Alexander Fomin.
The parties discussed existing cooperation projects in the defence sector, as well as issues of regional security in West Africa.
Alexander Fomin noted the importance of Russian-Malian cooperation, and also confirmed the readiness of the Ministry of Defenсe of the Russian Federation to continue a constructive dialogue. In turn, Colonel Sadio Camara thanked Colonel General Alexander Fomin for his help in equipping the Malian national armed forces.
