BRIEF CITATION CT (GD) BHAGIRATH SINGH RATHORE-120 BN BSF

On 26th Oct 2023, Constable Bhagirath Singh Rathore deployed at Border Outpost Vikram on International Border in area of Jammu and was detailed for night domination duty at a Forward Defended Post. While he was moving to his duty point, Pakistani troops deployed opposite AOR, started unprovoked firing towards own FDPs by using flat trajectory weapons and 82 millimeter Mortar. Constable Bhagirath immediately took cover and retaliated the fire. After one and half hour he was evacuated by a QRT of BOP Vikram. Constable Bhagirath was instructed to return to BOP Vikram, but he requested to be dropped at his duty place, at FDP instead of BOP Vikram. After reaching duty point, he opened fire towards Pak side from LMG. Unfortunately, said LMG stopped firing due to some technical fault. In order to dominate Pak Post Iqbal Saheed, from which fire was coming, Constable Bhagirath came out in the open and fired from his 51mm Mortar, amidst heavy fire without caring for his life. In recognition to his indomitable spirit, bravery, utmost professionalism and presence of mind under heavy firing from Pak side, Constable Bhagirath Singh Rathore of 120 Battalion BSF has been awarded with ‘Medal for Gallantry’(GM).
