Bangalore. 12 February 2025. In a spectacular display of India’s growing aviation capabilities, Union Minister of Civil Aviation K Rammohan Naidu took to the skies in Hindustan Aeronautics Limited’s (HAL) indigenous trainer aircraft, the HJUnion Minister of Civil Aviation K Rammohan Naidu took to the skies in Hindustan Aeronautics LimitedT-36, during Aero India 2025. The exhilarating flight, conducted at the Yelahanka Air Force Station, symbolized India’s progress in military aviation and reiterated the government’s commitment to promoting indigenous aircraft under the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative.

In a LinkedIn post after the flight, Minister Naidu lauded HAL’s engineering excellence and emphasized the importance of self-reliance in aerospace manufacturing. “ The roar of the engines, the sheer force of acceleration, and the breathtaking view from the cockpit—it’s an experience that words can hardly capture! Being part of a sortie in the HJT-36 ‘Yashas’ was not just thrilling, it was deeply humbling. This aircraft, built by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, represents the brilliance of Indian engineering and our unwavering commitment to self-reliance,” he remarked.

According to an official statement, the minister flew in a Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL) trainer jet called “Yashas.” Had the amazing chance to conduct a sortie aboard the HJT-36 “Yashas,” a magnificent jet aircraft that HAL is proud to manufacture in India. India’s increasing strength in aerospace and defense industries is demonstrated by this domestic marvel, Naidu remarked.

The Minister’s flight in the HJT-36 at Aero India 2025 marked a significant milestone for India’s indigenous aviation sector. It reinforced the government’s commitment to self-reliance, technological advancement, and modern pilot training solutions. With Aero India 2025 providing a global platform for showcasing India’s aerospace prowess, HAL’s HJT-36 stood out as a shining example of innovation, engineering excellence, and India’s growing influence in the global aviation industry. Minister Naidu’s flight not only validated the aircraft’s capabilities but also sent a strong message about India’s confidence in homegrown aviation technology.

Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu The HAL HJT-36 Yashas is a subsonic intermediate jet trainer aircraft designed and developed by Aircraft Research and Design Centre (ARDC) and built by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the Indian Air Force and the Indian Navy. The HJT-36 will replace the HAL HJT-16 Kiran as the Stage-2 trainer for the two forces. During the opening ceremony of Aero India 2025, the HJT-36 was renamed as Yashas after undergoing significant design modifications. It is now capable of Stage II pilot training, counter insurgency and counter surface force operations, armament training, aerobatics and other roles.

As HAL continues to push the boundaries of indigenous aircraft development, the HJT-36 is expected to play a crucial role in training the next generation of pilots, further solidifying India’s position as a leader in aerospace manufacturing and innovation.
