Moscow. 18 May 2021. The newest attack helicopter Mi-28NM will take part in the flight program of the International Aviation and Space Salon MAKS-2021, according to the press service of the Russian Helicopters holding of the State Corporation Rostec.
“Night Hunter” will take its place in the ranks during a group flight of Russian helicopters. Then a solo demo program will be presented, including elements of complex aerobatics, applicable in real air combat.
“The Mi-28NM is one of the most high-tech and modern helicopters in the holding’s lineup, and at the MAKS airshow it will take part in a new production aircraft quality for itself,” said Andrey Boginsky, General Director of the Russian Helicopters holding.
As previously reported, in 2019, a contract was signed for the supply of 98 Mi-28NM attack helicopters to the Russian Ministry of Defense. The first batch of serial helicopters was handed over to the customer in 2020.
The novelty differs from the original Mi-28N by the installation of a new engine with improved parameters and a new auxiliary power plant, a new onboard avionics complex, and a surveillance and sighting system. The combat capabilities of the helicopter are enhanced by the use of new guided and unguided missile weapons, including anti-tank missiles with an increased launch range, which makes it possible to perform combat missions with minimal risk of being hit by enemy air defenses. Also, the helicopter received the ability to interface with unmanned aerial vehicles. The new generation night vision system significantly expands the possibilities for combat use at night.
The demonstration of the Mi-28NM at the MAKS showroom will become an important factor in promoting domestic helicopter technology on the international market. “The developments on the Mi-28NM in the future will also be implemented in its export version, which is of great interest to both our traditional customers, such as the countries of the Middle East, Africa and Asia, and new potential partners, because the export version of the helicopter has already confirmed its high reliability. “, – the words of the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov are quoted in the message.
