New Delhi. September. Delhi Cantonment has decided to go ‘GREENER’ by replacing fifteen thousand conventional streetlights with smart LED streetlights in next six months. The unique initiative at Delhi Cantonment would result in reduction of eight thousand tons of CO2 emission per annum apart from allied commercial benefits. The project is based on Energy Service Company (ESCO) model and MES has opted to proceed with Fixed Annuity Based Performance Contract model for implementation of the project.
Lt Gen KJ Singh, Western Army Commander was the Chief Guest and Lt Gen Rajan Ravindran, GOC Delhi Area was the Guest of Honour for the ceremony of signing of MoU between Military Engineer Services (MES) and Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) at Manekshaw Centre Delhi Cantonment today.
LED lights offer significantly greater luminescence and superior quality illumination for the same wattage and save electricity to an extent of 70%. This requires no upfront capital investment and annuity repayment to EESL would be spread over seven years during which EESL would be responsible for Maintenance and Operation of the assets. Delhi Cantonment being highly sensitive from security point of view, the significance of uninterrupted security and area lightning gains paramount importance. MES has opted for satellite based CCMS (Central Control and Managemet System) backed by 24×7 on call service facility for lodging complaint to ensure 100% serviceability.
