ITBP launches search operation

Pithoragarh. 13 June 2019. The Indo Tibetan border Police (ITBP) with support of District Administration, Pithoragarh has launched their mountaineers to the Nanda Devi East base camp through land route to carry out search operations for the eight missing mountaineers in Pithoragarh District. Launched from Pithoragarh, the team of highly trained mountaineers of the Force will approach towards the base camp and will try to reach to the site where the equipments and other items were reported seen near the un named peak near Nanda Devi East. The missing
team was comprising of eight mountaineers out of which 7 are foreigners (UK-4, USA-2 Australia-1) and 1 Indian were reported missing while they were on an expedition to an unnamed peak from 26 may 2019. The search operation earlier tried to launch the airborne operation earlier which was not successful due to various altitude and weather reasons.

ITBP launches search operation

The ITBP team is expected to reach to the base camp in a week and after required acclimatization it will try to reach to the spot where the mountaineers have been last spotted.


It will be very challenging mission as the site is located at about 20,000 feet in between glacier and other snow hazard prone area. Air support will also be taken for logistics in the course of operation.
The ITBP search team was briefed by Sh SS Deswal, DG ITBP in Pithoragarh couple of days ago.
