In recognition of the courage and bravery displayed during various duties and distinguished/ meritorious service rendered by Border Security Force personnel, the President of India is pleased to award 60 Medals which include 08 Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG) including 03 Posthumously, 05 President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Services (PPMDS) and 47 Police Medal for Meritorious Services (PMMS) to the BSF personnel on the occasion of “REPUBLIC DAY- 2019”.

POLICE MEDAL FOR GALLANTRY
01. Constable Late Mohamad Ramzan Parray, 73 Bn BSF
Constable Mohamad Ramzan Parray an inhabitant of village Hajin, Distt-Bandipur (J&K), a highly militancy infested area of North Kashmir had joined BSF as a Constable on 21.01.2011.
While availing a short leave, on 27.09.2017 at about 2100 hrs, he was intercepted by a group of heavily armed militants at his home in the village but showing indomitable courage, Constable Mohamad Ramzan Parray countered the militants alone and foiled their plan to abduct him. In the night hours, same day, two militants from the same group barged into his house with an intention to abduct him. But Constable Mohamad Ramzan Parray and his family members put a valiant fight and almost succeeded to overpower one of the militant, however another militant shot Const Mohamad Ramzan Parray from a close range and injured him severely, later he succumbed to his injuries.
In recognition of his indomitable courage and bravery Const Mohamad Ramzan Parray has been awarded with Police Medal for Gallantry (Posthumously).
02. Constable Tapas Paul and Constable Sudhir Hembrom, 21 Bn BSF
On 23.11.2016 at about 1130 Hrs, Pakistani troops resorted heavy shelling in area of Army post Balbir and own FDL Keran with an intention to infiltrate militants. Const Tapas Paul and Const Sudhir Hembrom who were deployed at the highly sensitive OP post near FDL Keran were keeping a close watch in the AOR. Around 1330 Hrs, an Arty shell exploded near the OP post resulting grievous injury to both of them. Despite being injured and bleeding profusely, they kept on retaliating the fire and maintained domination, which foiled an infiltration attempt of militants backed by Pakistan Army.
In recognition of their exemplary courage and heroic action, Const Tapas Paul and Const Sudhir Hembrom have been awarded with Police Medal for Gallantry.
03. Constable Jagjeet Singh, 21 Bn BSF
On 29.10.2016 at about 1330 Hrs, while deployed at FDL Mainbore, Constable Jagjeet Singh faced heavy firing from across the border. Displaying extreme courage Constable Jagjeet Singh effectively retaliated the enemy firing. During action, he sustained multiple splinter injuries on left shoulder and face. Despite being injured, he continued retaliation, affected damage to enemy FDLs which forced them to stop fire.
In recognition of his extreme gallant action, Constable Jagjeet Singh has been awarded with Police Medal for Gallantry.
04. Head Constable A Suresh, 78 Bn BSF
On 17.01.2018 at about 2105 Hrs, HC A Suresh was deployed as the Naka Commander at forward duty point BOP Baquarpur in Jammu region. Suddenly, Pakistani troops, across the border, started firing with flat trajectory weapons towards the duty point. Displaying immense courage and valour, the party under HC A Suresh effectively retaliated the Pak firing and put a stiff resistance. During exchange of fire, HC A Suresh sustained grievous injury and succumbed to his injuries.
In recognition of exemplary courage and immense battle prudence, HC A Suresh has been awarded with Police Medal for Gallantry (Posthumously).
05. Constable Nitin Kumar, Constable Pravindra Kumar and Constable Barun Kumar, 40 Bn BSF
In intervening night of 2/3 Oct’ 2016, Constable Nitin Kumar and Constable Barun Kumar of 40 Bn BSF were deployed for night duty of CI Post Stadium Colony, Baramulla. While on duty around 2200 hrs, they heard unusual barking of stray dogs in the near vicinity. After assessing the situation, Constable Barun Kumar directed Constable Nitin Kumar to check the suspicious movement while he covered Constable Nitin Kumar. Const Nitin Kumar tactically traced a human movement and raised alarm. He was fired upon by militants, which was retaliated by Const Barun Kumar, Const Nitin Kumar and Const Pravindra Kumar from adjacent morcha. Militant also lobbed a grenade, as a result Constable Nitin Kumar received multiple injuries but by displaying the highest sense of combat audacity and courage in adverse situation, he returned to the bunker and started retaliatory fire. Constable Barun Kumar also fired from his weapon. Despite injuries, Constable Nitin Kumar, Constable Pravindra Kumar and Constable Barun Kumar effectively retaliated which forced the militants to flee from the spot. The gallant action of these Constables apparently foiled a suicidal strike of heavily armed militants.
In recognition of their gallant action, bravery and courage, Late Constable Nitin Kumar (Posthumously), Constable Pravindra Kumar and Constable Barun Kumar have been awarded with Police Medal for Gallantry.
