New Delhi. 26 April 2025. At Milipol India, Shyam VNL proudly showcased its cutting-edge indigenous security and communication technologies. In a candid conversation, Manoj Bhan, senior executive at Shyam VNL, spoke to ADU about the company’s Made-in-India journey, the future of secure communications, anti-drone systems, and life-saving technologies for defence and disaster management.

ADU. Manoj ji, we are meeting here at Milipol India where Shyam VNL has a major Make in India theme. Can you you ellaborate.

Manoj Bhan. Good afternoon, ma’am. Thank you for your time and interest. Shyam VNL is a 50-year-old company with multiple verticals. We design and develop all our products entirely in India — from concept to final production. We only procure chipsets from Japan or the West; the rest is 100% Made in India.

ADU. That’s impressive. What solutions are you showcasing here?

Manoj Bhan. We are displaying several solutions. Firstly, our mobile and bug detection system, which detects any bugging device or RF activity within a targeted area — a room, building, campus, prison, or defence establishment. It captures equipment details like IMEI numbers and can block unauthorized communication. It can even locate a mobile device within an accuracy of less than one metre.

ADU. That seems vital for secure offices and sensitive meetings.

Manoj Bhan. Absolutely. In today’s world, mobiles and planted bugs are a serious security concern. Data theft from offices, operations rooms, and defence establishments is rampant. Our systems aim to ensure confidential meetings and protect critical information.

ADU. You also have an anti-drone portfolio?

Manoj Bhan. Yes. We offer a full range of anti-drone solutions for borders, airports, critical infrastructure, and VIP convoys. Detection, mitigation, and neutralization systems are available, customized to different operational needs, covering 360-degree protection.

ADU. Tell us about your secure communications for soldiers.

Manoj Bhan. We have built secure voice and video networks for soldiers operating in remote border areas. Alongside that, we’ve developed a Situation Awareness System, a unique application that tracks soldiers’ locations, creates virtual fences, and alerts when lines are crossed — enhancing security in tough terrains without physical barriers.

ADU. Is there any visual surveillance involved?

Manoj Bhan. Not necessarily cameras. The application uses virtual lines and real-time location tracking. If a soldier crosses a virtual boundary, both the soldier and the commander are alerted immediately.

ADU. That sounds life-saving.

Manoj Bhan. Yes. It can prevent friendly fire, reduce fatalities in border areas, and assist in critical health emergencies. If a soldier is injured, the nearest teammate can initiate video communication with a doctor and get immediate assistance within the vital first 15–30 minutes.

ADU. Are these technologies already deployed with Indian forces?

Manoj Bhan. Some systems are deployed across various Indian Armed Forces units and paramilitary forces. We also offer disaster management solutions — setting up communication networks within 15–30 minutes after a disaster and locating trapped individuals through mobile detection technologies.

ADU. What about the role of AI in these systems?

Manoj Bhan. Our solutions integrate AI and machine learning. Though a man initiates the system, the loop involvement is minimal. The system automatically detects, records, and even maintains histories — such as logging who visited an office years ago.

ADU. Are these systems customizable?

Manoj Bhan. Absolutely. Since everything is designed and manufactured in-house, we can tailor systems according to customer needs and keep upgrading them with evolving technology.

ADU. Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Manoj Bhan. Yes, we encourage maintenance contracts. These systems need constant upgrades, similar to smartphones. Having technical support ensures lifetime efficiency and compatibility with new technologies.

ADU. Where are your facilities located?

Manoj Bhan. Our design and R&D centre is in Gurgaon, just 10 kilometres from here, and we have a large manufacturing facility with assembly lines at Manesar.

ADU. How has the response been at Milipol India so far?

Manoj Bhan. Very encouraging. Dignitaries and real users showed strong interest, recognizing the urgent need for our solutions. Some even requested immediate field deployment.

ADU. Anything you would like to add?

Manoj Bhan. I would like to request all agencies — if you have specific requirements, come to us. We are proud to be an indigenous end-to-end technology provider. We will understand your needs and develop tailor-made solutions to serve the nation’s security better. Thank you very much.

At a time when indigenous capability and security preparedness are of utmost importance, Shyam VNL’s made-in-India solutions are playing a crucial role in strengthening India’s defence, communication, and disaster response systems.
