New Delhi. 03 July 2018. Admiral JG Nadkarni former Chief of Naval staff from 01 December 1987 to 30 November 1990, lost the final battle to cancer yesterday. He died at the Naval Hospital in Mumbai at the age of 87.
Born on 05 December 1931 Admiral Nadkarni served in the Indian Navy from 1949 to 1990. Prior to becoming the CNS he was the FOC-in-C, Eastern Naval Command and FOC, Western Fleet and was posted on INS Delhi and INS Talwar. He was the few officers who were a part of Liberation of Goa, Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 and Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.
Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman tweeted. “ He participated in the Liberation of Goa and played a stellar role in the India-Pakistan War 1965 and in 1971.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted , “Anguished by the demise of former Indian Navy chief, Admiral JG Nadkarni He served the nation with utmost diligence and was passionate about maritime history. My thoughts are with his family and friends. ” .
