Dubai, UAE; November 10, 2017: Aviation District, the intelligently designed aerospace ecosystem within Dubai South – a 145 square kilometre aerotropolis – is gearing up for the 2017 edition of the Dubai Airshow by targeting and attracting major investments in a bid to become a key contributor to the aviation sector in the region.
The Aviation District provides opportunities to a wide range of business segments that cover the entire aviation supply chain, general aviation, maintenance and repair and overhaul (MRO), and education, training and research and development through its diverse asset mix, aeronautical infrastructure and product offerings.
Underpinned by the vision of the Government of Dubai to become the aviation capital of the world, the Aviation District has witnessed tremendous milestones, with a continual progression toward being a catalyst to spur growth in Dubai’s aviation sector. Dubai South, the master development, is aspiring to become a city with the world’s largest airport with a capacity to fly more than 220 million passengers and 16 million tons of cargo a year upon completion.
Tahnoon Saif, Vice President of Aviation at Dubai South, said: “Dubai South’s Aviation District plays a critical role in the development of an aerospace ecosystem that caters to every aspect of MRO, education, research & development, and hospitality. Designed to meet all practical aspects of the aviation and aerospace industries, from design and development to operation and use of aircraft, Aviation District will be critical to the growth of this sector.
“We, therefore, welcome investments from all major players in the aviation and aerospace industry as we build an integrated ecosystem that seamlessly links land, air and sea trade with airside and landside access allowing direct and efficient movement of goods and services.”
At the Dubai Airshow, Aviation District will also showcase its aviation experience and expertise through several announcements aimed at transforming the district into a global hub for aerospace activities.
Spanning an area of seven square kilometres, the Aviation district is the permanent home of the Dubai Airshow and caters to all practical aspects of private and general aviation.
The district is divided into four business verticals – General Aviation which is home to the VIP Terminal, hangars, fuel farm, catering, ground handling, helicopter operations; Maintenance and Technical Support which includes a paint shop, the MROs and the aerospace supply chain; a Commercial Strip which has retail & hotel, and the exhibition area; and an Education and Training vertical that hosts the Emirates Flight Training Academy, simulators and different universities and vocational training institutes.
As the world’s first master-planned airport city, Dubai South is concentrating on building state-of-the-art infrastructure around the Al Maktoum International, thus creating a thriving aviation ecosystem. The Aviation District provides a specialised business environment that meets all the needs of the aviation industry.
