Ashburn, Va. 19 August 2021 . Curtiss-Wright’s Defense Solutions division, a trusted, proven supplier of rugged network switches and routers and Cisco Solution Technology Integrator (STI), has introduced the embedded market’s most rugged secure network backbone solution for deploying advanced Cisco network routing and switching resources at the edge of the tactical network. The new Parvus® DuraMAR 63-33 combines two of Cisco’s latest embedded router and switch technologies – ESR-6300 and ESS-3300 – in a single ultra-rugged compact chassis optimized for harsh military and civil vehicle/aircraft installations. The unit features up to 32 Ethernet ports with 1/10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) data rates to support advanced network services in the battlefield, including Power over Ethernet (PoE), advanced IPv4/IPv6 routing protocols, radio aware routing (RAR), remote VoIP, and CNSA cryptography. The DuraMAR 63-33 also supports mobile ad hoc networking (MANET) for connectivity in communications on the move (COTM) applications.

The compact unit represents a compelling upgrade choice for users of Curtiss-Wright’s popular DuraMAR 5915 secure mobile network router (based on Cisco’s ESR-5915 and ESS-2020). The unit integrates proven COTS subassemblies from the standalone DuraMAR 6300 router and DuraNET 3300 switch LRU products and hosts them in a single small form factor (SFF) IP67-rated fanless enclosure. The chassis, which features MIL-performance circular connectors and a military grade power supply, shares virtually the same mechanical footprint as the DuraMAR 5915. What’s more, because the unit is based on familiar Cisco IOS-XE software, IT training requirements are minimized.

“As a Cisco Systems Solution Technology Integrator, we are committed to bringing Cisco’s highest performance embedded router and switch technology to the warfighter,” said Chris Wiltsey, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Curtiss-Wright Defense Solutions division. ”We believe our new DuraMAR 63-33 is the most rugged, highest performance Cisco router and switch combination network appliance on the market today. This all-in-one networking solution leverages Cisco’s IOS-XE software and the latest in performance, cybersecurity, quality of service, and manageability that our military and aerospace customers demand.”

DuraMAR 63-33 delivers high throughput in-vehicle / airborne Layer 3 routing and Layer 2 Ethernet switching for IP-enabled tactical equipment (i.e. mission computers, cameras, sensors, radios, satcom modems, and vehicle command-and-control equipment). To protect critical data-in-motion, the unit’s advanced network security features include secure boot, CNSA (Layer 3) / MACSec (Layer 2) encryption, VPN, Firewall, and Zeroize. The unit also supports applications with specialized network cybersecurity requirements, including red / black network separation and Commercial Solutions for Classified (CSfC) / Next-Gen CNSA (NSA Suite B) encryption with cybersecurity technologies evaluated by NIAP and the NSA.

With compliance to the most extreme range of MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461 and DO-160 environmental and EMI tests available for a Cisco-based product, DuraMAR 63-33 supports full water immersion, wide temperature operation without fans over -40 to +71C (-40 to +160F), 40Gs operational shock, 75Gs crash hazard shock, high vibration, humidity, and altitude up to 50,000 feet. The unit can be deployed in the most demanding deployed environments, including fighter jets, attack helicopters, and armored tanks.
