Shanghai. 02 November, 2015. China’s Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China ( COMAC) revealed its long known open secret- the single-aisle, twin-engine C919 ‘Made in China’ , which can seat up to 168 passengers , in a hangar at an assembly plant outside Shanghai, near Pudong International Airport . The aircraft will undergo testing over the next year or so and won’t be ready for delivery until 2018.
The first customers of C919 are not yet known but the company said it has received orders from 21 customers for a total of 517 aircraft, mostly from Chinese carriers and from GE Capital Aviation Services.
Though Made in AChina the aircraft has a lot of imported products like avionics from Rockwell Collins Inc. and engines developed by CFM International.
The C919 competes with the Airbus’s A320 family and Boeing’s 737 series. Another Chinese company has developed a smaller regional jet, of the kind now made by Brazil’s Embraer and Canada’s Bombardier, informed sources.
