New Delhi. 01 June 2022. This is a story which started 99 years ago and a relationship which is going to celebrate a century of its existence.2023 will be the year of Boeing’s 100 years in India and ADU has started it’s series of countdown. We begin by just letting you see the dateline of this relationship, from Doughlas World Cruisers in 1923 to P8Is in 2022.
- 1923: As part of Douglas Aircraft Company’s (now Boeing) historic flight around the world, three Douglas World cruisers reach Calcutta
- 1932: J.R.D. Tata flies from Karachi to Ahmedabad via Mumbai in a single-engine de Havilland (now Boeing) Puss Moth
- 1941: The Government of India lends a Douglas aircraft (now Boeing) to Tata Airlines for the historic Karachi to Baghdad flight
- 1944: Tata Airlines flies weekly Bombay to Colombo using Douglas (now Boeing) DC-3s
- 1945: Tata Airlines purchases / leases Douglas (now Boeing) DC-3s
- 1955: Indian Airlines replaces Douglas (now Boeing) DC-3s with DC-4s
- 1960: Air India receives delivery of Boeing 707-437s
- 1967: Air India places orders for Boeing 747-100s
- 1970: Indian Airlines receives delivery of Boeing 737s
- 1971: Air India receives delivery of Boeing 747-200s
- 1988: Air India receives delivery of Boeing 747-300s
- 1991: HAL becomes single-source producer of Boeing 757 over-wing exit doors
- 1993: Air India receives delivery of Boeing 747-400s
- 1995: Boeing initiates R&D collaboration with National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL)
- 1997: Boeing initiates partnerships with leading Indian firms in Engineering and Information Technology
- 2003: Boeing establishes a wholly owned subsidiary in India – Boeing International Corporation India Private Limited (BICIPL)
- 2005: Air India orders 68 Boeing aircrafts – largest valued single order in commercial aviation history
- 2005-2007: Private airlines (Spice Jet and Jet Airways) place orders totaling 70 Boeing aircraft
- 2005: Boeing forms partnership with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, to conduct research in aerospace material, structures, and manufacturing technologies
- 2007: Boeing and HAL sign MoU to produce parts for commercial and defense aircraft
- 2008: Indian Air Force receives delivery of Boeing 737 VVIP aircraft
- 2008: Boeing establishes Aerospace Network Research Consortium (ANRC) in partnership with IISc, Wipro and HCL
- November 4, 2008: Boeing Day held at Indian Institute of Science (IISc)
- 2009: Indian Navy places orders for eight Boeing P-8I Maritime Reconnaissance and Surveillance aircraft
- March 31, 2009: Boeing Research & Technology-India established in Bengaluru, India
- 2011: India’s Ministry of Defence signs an agreement with the U.S. government to acquire 10 Boeing C-17 Globemaster III airlifters
- 2012: Boeing delivers Air India’s first 787 Dreamliner
- 2013: Arrival of the first Boeing P-8I maritime surveillance aircraft in India
- 2013: Arrival of the first C-17 Globemaster III strategic airlift aircraft in India
- 2014: Indian Air Force receives 10 C-17 Globemaster IIIs
- 2015: Indian Navy takes delivery of eight P-8I aircraft
- 2016: Tata Boeing Aerospace Limited (TBAL) formed as a joint venture between the Tata Group and Boeing
- 2017: Boeing Defence India established
- 2018: SpiceJet takes deliveries of its first 737 MAXs
- 2018: TBAL delivers its first AH-64 Apache helicopter fuselage
- 2019: Indian Air Force receives its first CH-47 Chinooks and AH-64 Apaches, as well as its 11th C-17 Globemaster III
- 2020: Vistara receives its first 787-9 Dreamliner
- 2020: The Government of India signs an agreement with Boeing for the acquisition of six AH-64E Apache helicopters for the Indian Army
- 2020: Delivery of 22 Apaches and 15 Chinooks to the Indian Air Force completed
- 2020: Delivery of 9th P-8I to the Indian Navy
- 2020: Two specially modified 777-300ER delivered to India for use as Head of State aircraft
- 2021: $10 million emergency assistance package to support India’s COVID-19 response
- 2021: Delivery of 10th P-8I to the Indian Navy
- 2021: Delivery of 100th AH-64 Apache helicopter fuselage by TBAL
