Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. 09 August 2019. The MTU Aero Engines AG joint venture with Lufthansa Technik AG for airfoil repairing, ASSB (Airfoil Services Sdn Bhd), has started construction to add 5200 square meters more space to its current facility in Malaysia.

The expansion will enhance the current overhaul capacity of the plant from 650,000 to 900,000 parts per year by 2020, after this extension, the tracks and outlay of the company will further increase in Malaysia. This will add nearly 200 more jobs to current 500 over the next three years, Through its internally developed apprentice program, ASSB took on 124 local apprentices in 2018.


“There is significant market demand for airfoil repairs and we are delighted to be expanding the facility to cater to our customer’s needs. ASSB’s rapid growth not only brings investment to the region neighboring Kuala Lumpur, it also provides additional highly-skilled job opportunities to the local population,” said Wim van Beers, Managing Director at ASSB.


ASSB is a 50-50 JV between MTU and Lufthansa Technik AG, besides Airfoil services, the company provides knowledge, training, and enhanced quality standards to the area. It boasts over 80 customers worldwide and provides a comprehensive range of airfoil repair services for high-pressure compressor (HPC) and low-pressure turbine (LPT) airfoils – for widebody and narrowbody engines such as the CF6-80C, GP7000 and the CFM56 and V2500 engine families. The company has recently initiated several repair development projects for new generation airfoils to increase its product portfolio in the near future.
