New Delhi. 01 May, 2017. APS,Delhi Cantt won Global Accolades in Special Olympics World Winter Games 2017 held at Austria.
Special Olympics World Winter Games is one of the largest sports and humanitarian event in which 3000 athletes from 110 countries compete to prove their mettle.
Stalwarts of APS,DC NIOS Wing, Monu ,Ranjali, MukulPanwar and Pooja made indelible imprints on the global map of Special Olympics.
Our star player Monu, as the goal keeper of Indian Floor Ball Team, steered the team to victory and won gold medal and will be awarded cash prize of Rs 20 lakhs.
Ranjali won Bronze in Floor Hockey championship.
MukulPanwar won Bronze in Snow Shoeing 50 mtr race.
These two Bronze medalists will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 7 lakhs each.
The success story reveals the two years of their rigorous training and struggleto reach the pinnacle of success.
APS, DC opened the door to these specially abled children, which proved to be a turning point in their lives. The institution along with imparting academic knowledge took initiative in tapping their potential and channelizing it in the right direction. Understanding their inkling towards sports, the school provided them training , the right opportunities and the exposure the excel in the sports arena.
Motivational sessions held by the Principal, MsNeetu Kapoor with the parents and students boosted their confidence and inspired them to join the main stream of the society.The school Principal and the teacher in charge ,MrSudhir Prasad, had meetings with the special Olympic coach to work out a plan to ensure that these students are able to carve a niche in the Winter Olympic Games. Accordingly the students were put on a special diet and fitness regime.Regular training sessions were held in school for improving not only their stamina but also their skills in the sport.
The remarkable journey commenced with their selection for Delhi State Special Olympic Games at National Level in Dec, 2015 held at Solan, HP wherein Ranjali won gold in Female floor hockey team. Monu, won Bronze in the Male Floor Ball championship and got selected for Unified Floor Ball team.
MukulPanwar won 2 Gold medals in Snow Shoeing 50mtr and 100mtr race respectively.
Pooja participated and got selected in Unified Floor Ball Team to play the next level.
Patron of the school, Maj Gen Rajesh Sahai, AVSM, SMbestowed his blessings and rewarded them with cash prizes.
The school Chairman, Brig PiyushBisht and Staff Officer, Col VimalSethi felicitated these winners .
The appreciation, support and recognition by the school encouraged them to further excel in their respective fields.
These four sports achievers attended the First National Preparatory Camp held at Hyderabad in July 2016. On their successful completion they went on to participate in the second National Preparatory Camp held at Jamshedpur in Dec, 2016. They further attended theThird National Preparatory Camp held at Manali in Feb, 2017, followed by the Final National Preparatory Camp held at Solan in March2017.
Their commitment, dedication, hard work and the Will to Win materialized their dream when they were selected to represent the Indian Team in the most prestigious Special Olympics World Winter Games 2017, Austria.
The incessant efforts of the students and initiatives taken by the school resulted in bringing glory and laurels to APS Delhi Cantt, holding aloft the flag of the Nation.
