Dear media colleagues,
Practice is the best defense: Airbus is offering a new service that allows air defenders to practice how best to protect their countries, citizens and troops from attacks by swarms of mini-drones.
How the “Swarming Mini Drones Targets” service works was recently presented to representatives of the German Armed Forces by Friedrichshafen-based experts from Airbus’ Defence and Space business unit Target Systems & Services (TSS) and drone show provider DroneDreams. At the military training area in Todendorf in northern Germany, the partners had 20 quadcopter drones climb and fly in a swarm. During the demo, small drones acted as so-called “target display devices” in a wide variety of simulated combat scenarios which the teams then fought “with live fire” in the role of defenders.
The new “Swarming Mini Drones” service comprises:
- the deployment of mini-drone swarms of up to 200 quadcopter drones to training areas and firing ranges
- the coordination of the flights
- obtaining the necessary permits
- the disposal of downed drones
The service is initially available in Germany, but will soon be available internationally.
