New Delhi/Nicosia. It is -6 degrees and no shelter above for around 4000 Indian Students stranded at Ukraine Border Chernivisti-Romania Porubune Siret Border to enter Romania . When they reached here in a bus they managed to hire till the border, there was happiness on the faces , with optimism that they would cross over and get a flight back home.
But all hopes died in vain as the night set in and they are all still on the Ukrainian side of the border under the sky on a cold winter night, stranded without food, water, shelter and electricity.
The gates open for just about ten minutes once every six hours and only 30-40 individuals are allowed to cross over. Majorly girls have been allowed to go to Romania. The boys most of them are still on the Ukrainian side. A student of Vinntysia National Medical University Ukraine contacted ADU and gave them these details with the live location and pictures.
The last news was if these children move a little away from where they have been asked to sit, there are three rounds fired in the air to keep them at one place and not permitting a movement. There is a strong rumour that these boys could be taken to the nearest military camp till they are able to cross over into Romania.
When they arrived at the border they got down with smiling faces hoping that the worst was behind them and they would fly home in a few hours. What unfolded is a nightmare. They are waiting for the Indian government to evacuate them but are unsure of when their chance would come and whether they would be able to survive this humanitarian crisis they are finding themselves in. They are appealing to the Indian government to help them cross over and send them back home to their families in India.
ADU want’s to tell them that the Operation Ganga Helpline which has been created by the government and all Romania phone numbers are there to followup. Meanwhile we have also taken this up with the authorities. So keep yourselves strong and safe.
